Imam Job Description

The Imam is primarily responsible for delivering many religious, educational, and social services to the Muslim American Society, Community and Youth Center (MCYC) congregation. He is also responsible for establishing ongoing, well-thought-out educational programs/activities for the Muslim youth to inculcate authentic Islamic thoughts and values. He shall motivate the youth and involve them in programs and activities that help in their spiritual development and leadership skills.
Job Duties
- Deliver inspiring Khutbahs on Fridays and Eids, the Friday Family Night program, and other lectures as needed. In case of absence, take charge of making the arrangements for such services.
- Work closely with the MAS Youth Director to develop and execute the youth activities and Tarbiya programs.
- Develop and implement educational programs that include but are not limited to classes, lectures, seminars, Ramadan programs, and other Islamic educational programs in coordination with the MAS Tarbiya Director.
- Establish and supervise a Da’wah program for non-Muslims and reverts.
- Conduct Janazah (funerals), officiate marriages, and lead other life-critical ceremonies for community members as needed.
- Provide religious counseling as needed.
- Supervise any religious activities and programs to ensure their compatibility with the mission and vision of MAS.
- Conduct fundraising activities as needed in coordination with the MCYC Operation Committee and the MAS Sacramento Board of Directors.
- Work cooperatively with all MAS programs and projects as needed.
- Represent the MCYC in important religious and community affairs.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies from a renowned University.
- Three years of performing the duties of an Imam in an established Islamic Center.
- Good Command in Qur’anic Recitation, following Tajweed rules.
- Excellent communication skills and fluency in the English language.
- Experience in fundraising
- The candidate must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Islamic Studies or related fields. Degrees or diplomas in religious studies and Qur’anic Tajweed.
- Memorize the Holy Quran with proper recitation within the Qur’anic Tajweed rules.
- Fluency in Arabic. Knowledge of other languages such as Urdu and Farsi.
Administrative Duties
- The Imam will report regularly to the Operation Director of the MCYC Operation Committee.
- The Imam shall establish adequate processes and designated daily office hours to address the needs of the Muslim community as well as non-Muslim inquiries on social and religious matters.
- Participate in the MCYC Operation Committee unless he is under performance review.
