Intro

As a grassroots membership-based organization, the Muslim American Society (MAS) is only as effective as its members. Building a cohesive movement, with members that share a strong bond of brotherhood, sisterhood and Islamic-understanding, is a key enabler in MAS.

MAS members come together to live Islam in its totality, align their lives with divine guidance, and translate the teachings of Islam into living models, relevant discourse, viable solutions, and constructive programs and services.

What is MAS?

In the 1960s, student activists from around the world joined a fledgling American Muslim community. These young, movement-oriented people saw the need for sustained community work. So they started to organize. They networked, mentored, produced literature, and laid the foundations for communities. They established MSAs, mosques, schools, and organizations.

By the early 1990s, the Muslim community had grown, and these activists saw a need to formalize the effort of developing an Islamic movement in America.  This is how the Muslim American Society (MAS) was born. MAS advocates for the idea that Islam is a faith and a movement for change.
